Little Cupcakes Review

littlecupcakesI was in Melbourne for a short trip last week, and thought while I was there I would have to find a cupcake bakery to visit for a review, as we are running out of Sydney bakeries ;)

Little Cupcakes was closest to where I was staying, so it was the chosen one.

I found the super cute little store tucked away in a side street. The cupcakes look fabulous all neatly lined up in the display window. They have regular and mini sized cupcakes. Couldn’t wait to try one, had been a few months since my last cupcake!

I bought the Strawberry, Red Velvet, White Choc + Raspberry and Vanilla. I should have known better than to wait… should have gotten a picture and had a little taste straight away but after a long tram trip in the warmish weather they didn’t fair so well. Such a shame, they were beautifully packages in a little box and a cute little carry bag.

I wasn’t about to let appearances put me off and despite looking like a jumbled mess, I could still taste each of the icing flavours and cakes. They were delish! Icing had wonderful flavours and wasn’t too sweet. The cakes were lovely and fresh, not dry at all. The White Choc and Raspberry one was divine, with a lovely raspberry centre.

Little cupcakes, as must visit. But i’d suggest stuffing them in your face asap ;)

A slice of Chocolate heaven

I don’t think there were too many Aussies who didn’t watch and get totally hooked on the ch10 reality show Masterchef.chocmoussecake

One of the highlights of the show was patissier extraordinaire Adriano Zumbo and is amazing creations like his crockenbush and chocolate mousse cake, that have become somewhat of a household name.

Adriano is now giving you a chance to get your hands on one of his amazing Masterchef chocolate mousse cakes!

Adriano is making a limited edition run of 100 Chocolate Mousse Cakes for sale to the public.

Due to the popular nature of these now infamous cakes, customers will be drawn at random from a ballot system and be given the option to purchase the cake for $90.00.

5% of the proceeds will be donated to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Last week he also held an auction for a crockenbush and a slice of chocolate mousse cake. He raised over $1000 and all proceeds went to The Children’s Hospital.

Simply email your FULL NAME and a contact number to gimmecake@adrianozumbo.com and you could be in the running to buy one!

Anyone care to buy one and share a slice? Check out Adriano’s site for more details.

The Cupcake Bakery-QVB Sydney

The cupcake Bakery QVB

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Cupcake Bakery’s new store in The QVB.

The store itself is super cute, I love the decor. They have a great menu that clearly shows you the different cupcake flavours and which is what to make that hard choice a little easier.

The cupcakes look great. A full sized cupcake with lots of icing. The price wasn’t too bad, $3.50 for the basic cakes.

They smelt divine! I wasn’t allowed to eat any till we got home..so had to smell them the whole trip, it was torture I tell you!

Of course I had to taste a little bit of everyone’s. They were all amazing! Best cupcakes I have EVER had. The cakes were fresh and delicious..the icing was amazing, nice and sweet.

The Cupcake Bakery QVB

Highly recommend a visit, I will have to try out their other locations in the near future.

Cupcakes on Pitt new store and website

11122008698.jpgCupcakes on Pitt, one of Sydney’s best know cupcakeries has recently opened a new store in Parramatta.

The store is located inside Westfield Parramatta on Level 1 near IGA express (near the train station).

The new store is a tad bigger than the City store and looks fab.

I was hoping that things would be a little different to my first experience at Cupcakes on Pitt City store and all the reviews you read, but I was sadly disappointed.

Cupakes on Pitt Paramatta

The cupcakes look beautiful as always, so nicely decorated and presented. The packaging is fantastic. I love the boxes, the bags and the cute little cupcake holder.

But the cakes themselves are not what one would expect. A little dry and stale with little flavour. The icing doesn’t have enough flavour or sweetness for me.

The lemon meringue would have to be the one I liked most (and as you can see, I bought 4 of them) They were a little different to the last batch I had, them lemon filling has changed, not as nice as it was. I also didn’t mind the pumpkin, but think this may have been a seasonal flavour?

They have also recently relaunched a new snazzier website Cupcakes Online.

Perhaps they are just meant for a different kind of cupcake connoisseur? Surely there is someone out there who actually enjoys them? Maybe I have just gone on the wrong day? Would love to hear other peoples experiences.
