Two days before Christmas, it became official..we bought a house!
Who could ask for a better Christmas present. I honestly thought we would never be able to buy a house, not any time soon anyway..while I didn’t have a “real” job. Seem I don’t need to get one now LOL
<–That’s our house. Bit of a bargain I thought, it has 5 bedrooms so the girls can stop sharing (and choking each other) and still a room left over for the gym and office for me. Or maybe I will just use the bar as an office *hehe*.
It needs a bit of work, lots of paint and such..but that’s all part of the fun right?
Friday we move, but sadly..not into our house
There are tenants in there with a lease till mid March. Which would have been OK, if the current house we live in, that had been on the market for over 6mths didn’t sell the same week we bought *doh*
So we have to move out, and wait for our settlement (in 53 days, but who is counting) we will be moving in….with the inlaws
Now don’t get me wrong my inlaws are wonderful (*waves* Hi) really, I’m not just saying that. And how nice of them to allow us to invade their little space, after living on their own for so long. But I am seriously NOT looking forward to it.
I’m a quiet person, like my own space and privacy..we both are really. Not into having visitors much, and just like to enjoy our space…for ourself. So living in a tiny 3 bedroom house..all 7 of us is going to be fun to say the least. MIL did say the other day, it’s OK..you don’t have to talk to me while your hear..I’ll understand LOL
It’s going to be a steep learning curve too, but I hope it may help to break a few bad habits I/we have.
- Washing: They have a front loader, never used one before. I like to turn the machine on, then wander about the house collecting things to wash..opening the lid a dozen times to toss stuff in till its full. And then there is always the last minute thing you forgot. Ahh..best not be doing that with a front loader.
- Drying: I haven’t used a clothesline in..Hmm…would be well over 6yrs I am sure. It’s terrible I know, but towels and stuff feel so good, and it saves your clothes being faded from the sun…well thats my excuse and I am sticking to it. I pay extra for 100% green renewable electricity which makes me feel a little better. Not sure they will be keen on using the dryer for EVERYTHING, so I’ll need to work out how to use those peg things.
- Pants: Hmm, I don’t do pjs..just a tshirt sans pants. So that is certainly going to have to change!
- The cats: Oh dear..FIL isn’t really a cat person. We lived with them 13 odd years ago for about 18mths before we got our own place. We had a run of the mill moggie then who wasn’t too bad (tho he did like to shit on the floor next to the kitty litter every morning just for FIL..didn’t do it any other time) and that was bad enough. They know our cats, from when they come to visit..but I think they maybe a little shocked actually living with 3 meezers. Full cupboards of breakable things have been packed away in perperation for the furry grandkids arrival. Lets hope they don’t wreak too much havoc while we are there.
Oh and cooking..and cleaning..I so suck at that..we won’t even go there!
I just hope to ceiling cat 51 days will fly by quickly and we can finally move into our OWN house… and that I don’t manage to shit them off too much.

No matter how wonderful your inlaws are it will still be a hassle for everyone. Thankfully it is only for 51 days babe. Plan lots of outings for everyones sanity!
Front loaders suck! I know they’re good for the environment but top loaders rock my world! Especially when you forget something…. good luck girl! x
The most awesome thing about front loaders (well at least mine) is that you can’t accidentally flood your house by absent mindedly pulling the door open once it’s started. It just won’t let you…you can pause it, wait for about 2 mins which feels like 20 mins and then put your extra thing in. Most times I can’t be bothered waiting so I figure it can wait till next time I have a full load.
May the next 51 days pass in a blink of an eye. *fingers crossed*
Enjoy the sharing … haha! I’d go mental living with my parents or MIL. You’ll certainly appreciate the new house when you finally get there.
LMAO you quiet LMAO
stop worrying about living with the inlaws you being so quiet they wont even know you are there its just the kids hubby & cats that will upset them.
i am really pleased about your home though it looks great & i do love that big tree ( Im a tree person)
I’m sure it will fly and you have such a great thing to look forward too which I’m sure will help keep everyone patient and focused.
Good luck!
Oh Leigh I hope it flies by for you! Think of it as an adventure
Congratulations on becoming a home owner an I really hope that your stay with the Inlaws is not too traumatic.
Wish I could help you out with the furbies….but I think 4 cats might be too much for poor Rosie.
Firstly, congratulations on the house. You will survive the interim period. I’d recommend using the line to dry. Think of all the money you’ll save that you can put towards the mortgage and paint! I’ve got a front loader and it took me a little while to get used to it but I reckon it washes much better. Oh, and you can open it towards the beginning when there’s not much water but you have to wait a minute or so.
Yay! Great news about your own home!! You wont know yourself,it is a wonderful feeling. Hope the time flies for you all!
Congratulations on the purchase of your home.
Fronts loaders are brilliant as they are gentler on your clothes and the world we live in.
How lucky are you to have family to stay with.
Stop panicking and stay excited for your new home
Cool looking house, even if you have a couple of months before you can move in and they won’t be the most fun due to sharing… Keep thinking ahead to the new place and it’ll soon fly by and you’ll have the place you always wanted!

Don’t worry, it’s all good. Keep at open mind and a positive attitude. My MIL lives with me, full-time. Here’s one of my posts about it http://www.adventuresinparenting.org/2008/06/24/living-with-my-mother-in-law/
